Being a tourist - Buckingham Palace and Victoria

Went into London today to meet my friend Kathleen for lunch.   While I was there I thought I would do a little bit of sightseeing.

First I came across this lovely quiet little square called Victoria Square with a statue of a young Victoria in the middle of it.   This was tucked away off Buckingham Palace Road and I never knew it existed.

I then went on to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and despite the pavements being very crowded I managed to see the Guards marching back to the barrocks.

I found all of these unusual lamps and a weathervane on and around Buckingham Palace.

After lunch I met up with Rob in St James Park where we sat in the sun and then strolled back to Victoria to go home.

Environment Fair - Carshalton

I spent the afternoon with members of the Sutton Complementary Health Network at the Environment Fair, Carshalton.

We informed the public about the network and gave out loads of leaflets.

The weather was changeable but we did get some sun and no rain so this did bring out the crowds.

I did some Indian Head Massage for a few people and Manuela did the reflexology.

It was a good day but not a great picture of me!

Weather in August

I cannot believe how dreadful the weather has been this August.  It started raining Wednesday lunchtime and did not seem to stop all night.    At least the grass is green now instead of brown, but when will we get our summer back?!

The rain Wednesday evening..............

Indian Head Massage practiced at last

I managed to do some practice of my Indian Head Massage treatments on Tuesday evening.  Rochelle was happy to lend me her head and she bought me these lovely flowers.

Battersea Power Station

On the way back from my mystery tour of London I managed to get some photographs of one of my favourite buildings from the train leaving Victoria Station.

Photographic Mystery Tour of London

Had a great day on Tuesday on the Photographic Mystery Tour of London with the Hairy Goat - http://www.hairygoat.net/  Started at the Royal Exchange and walked around the streets, lanes, alleys of the City of London.   The weather was sunny then showers but the showers did not matter we just kept on going.  Took loads of photos of buildings, reflections of buildings, weather vanes and street furniture etc.  It was a really good tour and we came across some really interesting hidden away places.

Here only a few of my photos

I have put all the rest of photos in a photobox album so if you want to see them you will have to let me know so I can send you a link.

Hobbycraft

I have found a new Hobbycraft shop.  It is off the Purley Way, Croydon near the Wadden Marsh tram stop and is very very new.  The official opening is this bank holiday weekend but it is open now.  It is huge with loads and loads of goodies for the card maker, scrapbooker, cross stitcher to name but a few and I am sure there are other hobbies that I could get into.

At the moment there is loads of stock on the shelves and lets hope they have improved their stock replenishment system as it used to dire and you could wait months and months for them to restock.  This was because despite having electronic tills they were not used for stock control and they used humans to go around monthly basis checking all the items in the store and then placing the orders to restock!   Fingers crossed they have this sorted out now.

I hate housework

I do hate housework but it has to be done and it was today.  But I am lucky enough to have an iRobot Roomba.  This means while I am dusting one room my iRobot is vacuuming the other.  Now that is multi-tasking!

Lunch in Beckenham

Went on the tram over to Beckenham, today to meet Andrea for lunch.   We had a nice long walk around Kelsey Park and then sat and chatted while watching the ducks, geese and swans.  The gardens and flowers were looking lovely today.  There were far too many children about though, I blame the school holidays and I cannot understand why they not at home playing on their computers, Xbox, DS or wii.

Went to the Gourment Burger Kitchen for lunch (at least one of us remembered the money off vouchers), and then had a stroll around Beckenham and there does seem to be a few closed up shops, which is a sign of the times and Beckenham has it's fair amount of charity shops that appear to be thriving.

New Camera

I bought myself a new camera - Canon PowersShot SX210 IS, and of course you have to have a play.   I have used the self-timer on myself and it takes 3 shots fairly quickly, I had several attempts at getting a good picture as I need it for the Carers Support Merton news letter.   I have decided not to share that one with the world just yet.  I also took some local photos, around the Morden and Wallington areas mainly of the park and street furniture and those I have included below.   I was hoping to do some shots around Sutton but as there appears to be loads of road and pavement works and general digging up improvement works going on I thought I would give that a miss for the time being.

New Windows

At long last I have new windows.  The old ones were removed very quickly as there was not much keeping them in place.   Now I have the benefit of double-glazing, sparkling new windows which I will of course keep clean and try not to clutter up the sills.

The company made an error and have given me a frosted kitchen window, as well as the frosted bathroom window.   I am going to see if I like the frosted kitchen window as my view was of the side of a roof, which was not very exciting and I used to cover it with a cafe curtain any way.    I can always change my mind if I decide I need that view back again.

The Railway Children at Waterloo Station

Val and I went to see the Railway Children at Waterloo Station.   The old Eurostar platforms were the stage and the audience sat either side.   There were connecting boards between the platforms which were manouvered at different times during the performance to create a change of scene.  A real steam train comes into the platform during the course of the performance.   Marshall Lancaster (he was one of detectives in Ashes to Ashes)  It was really well done and a fantastic show.

Fish Pedicure

Went for my fish pedicure at Aqua Sheko in Kensington, today.   It starts with your feet being washed and then you sit down and gently place your feet in a tank of warm water and the fish start nibbling.   The sensation is like putting your feet into bubbles.   It is very relaxing and the staff are very attentive giving out cool drinks.    After 30 minutes you gently take your feet out of the tank, they are wiped and dried for you.    (If you go for the deluxe version you then get 15 minutes reflexology too.)
Lovely way to spend a Monday afternoon.

Indian Head Massage Course

Completed an Indian Head Massage course, with Gateway workshops, today.  Great course, now need to practice a sequence that I feel happy with.   Hopefully I can combine this with some reflexology or ear candling.

It rained at last

This is the first heavy rain since the 16 May.

There were a couple of very heavy showers and some thunder and lightening.  Unfortunately the showers did not last long and grass is still very very brown.

Walking Group - South Norwood Country Park

Todays walk was around South Norwood Country Park.   The walk started and ended at the Arena tram stop.  The Park is very large, not particularly picturesque, there is a large lake full of ducks and also a few carved totem poles around the place.

It is possible to see the Crystal Palace TV masts in the distance.  The ground is very dry and cracked at the moment as it has not rained for some time.  There are several places to stop and pick blackberries so I must remember to take a container to collect some on my next visit.

What to do with an Aubergine?

Got an aubergine in my veg box and it is not one of my favourite veg so searched around and found a recipe for Baba Ganoush.

I blitzed the aubergine with garlic, cumin, paprika, lemon juice, tahini, coriander and fat free fromage frais.  Topped it with a sprinkle of paprika and coriander.

Tastes pretty scrummy to me.

Tap for Fun

Went with Amanda up to Ickenham (the other end of the Metropolitan Line) to see a tap dancing show.

We had a nice day out and had lunch at the Coach and Horses before going to see the show.

The company Tap for Fun put on a show called "The Story Teller" at the Compass Theatre.

The show consisted of about 35 talented dancers and was about 4 different stories each with its own plot and message.
