Lewes

Friday was a day out with Val.  We were both free and after much deliberating choose Lewes as our place to visit.  We had both been there before but not with each other and as we always shop well together off we went.

We got the train from London Victoria and once we arrived we walked up to the High Street.  There are some great little shops so it doesn't look like every other High Street that you get these days.

We walked as far as the Fifteenth Century Bookshop and the  view from the shop is lovely.

On the way back down the other side of the High Street is Pipe Passage which is one of the many nooks and cranies that this place has to offer.

I think this is place to visit again and to take in more of the history and probably a lot more photographs

Salt Cave

Rochelle and I went to the Salt Cave at Earlsfield yesterday evening.  It was different!   Yes that is the word different.  I am not sure it is worth the money, fortunately we got it cheap.  The other thing is we got told off for talking!  Now how ridiculous is that, one girl that had only been in the place 2 minutes went off and told tales to the lady in charge that we were chatting so she had to come and speak to us and tell us to be quiet!

Weekend in Galicia

I have just come back from a weekend in Galicia, Spain.  I went to see my lovely nieces, Laura and Amber, and to have a relaxing weekend.
Galicia is very green and the village, Vilaboa, I am staying in is quite and has a large lake and is surrounded by forests.
During my stay we went off to El Ferrol, San Andres de Teixido and Cedeira.

But also had some relaxing time in Vilaboa with the family and animals, including the new and very young kitten.

Royal Albert Hall & Albert Memorial

I went on a visit today to the Royal Albert Hall.   This visit included a tour of the front of hourse of the RAH.  The tour lasts about one hour and our guide, Richard, was very informative.   There are other tours that go backstage but these are very rare.   Unfortunately you cannot take photographs in the RAH while on the tour so I had to make do with photographs of the outside of the building.

Following the visit I did take some photographs of the Albert Memorial opposite the Hall.  The rest of the photographs are on the flickr photostream.

Midnight Tango

Rochelle and I went to Woking on Thursday evening to the theatre.  The show was Midnight Tango, the storyline was sent in a late night downtown bar in Buenos Aires.   The main characters were Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, of Strictly Come Dancing fame and it is a really facinating show especially if you like tango.

And on the station waiting for our train home we saw Arlene Phillips who is presenting the show.

Photocraft Camera Club

I was invited to go along to the Photocraft Camera Club in Wallington by a lady within the SCHN as she is a keen photographer and she discovered I was too.   The first couple of evenings were very much looking at everyone elses work and watching the judging of a competition but this week it was something different.   We were all asked to bring along our cameras and we were given 15 minutes to go and take 10 photographs of the area surrounding the hall.  It is not the most picturesque area but we all had a go.  When we came back into the hall we all then viewed each others work.   It was really interesting to see what each person picked up on.  Here are some of my photos.

New Photography Course - week 2

Week 2 of the photography course, we covered Exposure Compensation (that is the + / - button).   We then went on to look at ISO and we went outside to take some photos using various ISO settings to explore the differences in brightness.  After our break we then discussed Aperture and Shutter speed.   All good stuff to revise!

Homework is colour and taking some photos with vibrant colours, but also looking at colours on opposite sides of the colour wheel.   Will have to see what I can find

Westminster Cathedral

As I needed to take some landscape photographs for my homework I thought I would go up to London and take my photographs in and around the Westminster Cathedral.  This including going to the top of the tower and taking some photographs of the views from up there.
This is the first time I have been inside the Cathedral and I don't usually take photographs in Churches but I thought I would take one.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the views from the top of the tower were amazing.  Here are a couple.

New Photography Course

I started a 4 week photography course yesterday - the course is People, Places and Nature.  We are going over some of the points that have been covered in previous courses, but that is good revision and helps me to remember what  I am supposed to be doing.

Our homework for this week is to take some photos using some of modes, Landscape, Portrait, Night and Sport.  So good practice and I will see what I can find to photograph.

Brixton Windmill

On this sunny but very windy day I took a nostalgic trip through Streatham to Brixton to see the newly refurbished Brixton Windmill.

Streatham is an area I knew well as I was brought up around there and I used to have a Saturday job working in one of the many shoe shops that were along the high street and I spent most of my teenage years in the ice rink.  Oh how the place has changed beyond recognition.  The ice rink is still there at the moment and I saw the Odeon cinema is still going but the ABC cinema appears to be boarded up.  There are one of two shops that still remain but the rest of the high street has changed completely.    However, I was just passing through on the bus to go to Brixton, but getting off at Blenheim Gardens just passed Brixton Prison.  A short walk up Blenheim Gardens, there is a small park and there is the Windmill.

The Windmill has been in Brixton for a very long time, I was taken there as a child by my Mum and we managed to go inside the windmill then too, so it was good to see that the Windmill has now been restored.

There is a Friends of Brixton Windmill website that has loads of information about the history etc so I will not go into details but add their link here http://www.brixtonwindmill.org/index.htm

I have add a few views to the flickr photostream too.
