Watercress Line (again)

I went back to the Watercress Line again today to take some more photographs for my C&G Level 1 - Theme.  It was a bit chilly, only one steam train running but fortunately not many people about.  I hope to add some photographs here and onto my flickr but first I need to download them and get them checked out by my tutor.   So watch this space for more pix.

English National Ballet

Rochelle and I went to the ballet last night.  We went to the London Coliseum to see the English National Ballet to see Beyond Ballet Russes.   We saw Programme 2 which included Apollo, Jeux, Le Train bieu and Suite en blanc.   It was great show with some lovely ballet and music.

Kew Gardens

On Tuesday I met up with Karen from my photography class for a trip to Kew Gardens.  It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day, not like March at all.    Karen wanted to use the trip to photograph reflections and shadows and I came along as I love a day out with my camera.

There are a some more photos on my flickr photostream which includes photographs that I took last year.

Watercress Line

Val and I went to the Watercress Line yesterday for lovely sunny day out.   I had planned the trip because I wanted to take some photographs of steam trains and some of the old stations for my C&G.

We got the train down to Alton and crossed over to the Mid-Hants Railway and there if felt like we had stepped back in time and saw our first steam train.

The trains were running as part of the 3 day Spring Steam Gala.

We boarded the train and went off to Alresford via Ropley and Medstead, both of which are lovely little stations.

When we got to Alresford we found a place for lunch and had stroll around the shops.  Alresford is a pretty little town with some lovely cottages.
There were a couple of items at Alresford Station that did bring back some memories, a loo with penny slot on the door and a telephone box with the buttons A & B.
I have added some more photographs to my photostream

Theo the Magician

I have known Theo for a few years now, he is a both a magician but also a massage therapist and the Chairman of the Sutton Complementary Health Network (SCHN).   Theo does an amazing amount of work for charity and also hosts Extreme Business Networking evenings which are great fun, so why not check out his website - Theo the Magician

Seeds are growing

The seeds I planted the other week are growing.   The tomatoes have grown most with the herbs coming along a close second and the chillies are now poking up through the soil.   I am really pleased so far, so fingers crossed they continue to grow.

Weekend in Stony Stratford

Just back from a lovely weekend in Stony Stratford visiting my friend, Sharon, who has only been living  in her new home for a few months.   Stony Stratford is near Milton Keynes and is a very little town.  There are quite a few little independent shops, a few pubs and restaurants and a growing number of charity shops.

I didn't really get an opportunity to take any photos but we did have a walk around the town and along the River Ouse.  We then popped into one of the pubs that does a really good afternoon tea where I had the best butterfly fairy cakes I have had since I my grandmother was alive.    In the evening we had a meal at the local Thai restaurant, which was very nice and not expensive.

On the Sunday we had a walk in some woods, but the weather was a bit chilly to stay out too long.  I did manage to get the camera out (briefly) when I saw this tree - great colours.

We went back home for a home cooked roast dinner.    It really was good weekend and Stony Stratford is worth a visit

Went off to Canterbury yesterday with Val.  It was supposed to be a shopping trip but I managed to buy nothing and Val only bought 2 books.   We had a good wonder around the shops and a great lunch.  The weather was wonderful and sunny but the place was so crowded with tourists.

Commonwealth Day

I was lucky enough to attend a service at Westminster Abbey yesterday for Commonwealth Day yesterday. It was attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex.   Even more exciting was the fact they walked right by where I was standing.

Sutton Model Engineering Club

I visited on of the track days at the Sutton Model Engineering Club today.  I went to take some photographs as my theme for my City and Guilds Photography Course is trains and railways.   I came across the SMEC by accident but emailed them to find out where they were.   Having been send a map I found my way to an opening surrounded by houses and there were various tracks and trains, some large enough to ride on.

I have added further photos to my flickr photostream

Orient Express

I had some spare time today so popped into London Victoria to see the Orient Express being pulled by a steam engine.   I really wanted to see the steam engine but seeing the Orient Express and all the customers dressed up in their finery was a bonus.
I have added some photos to my flickr photostream

Baking day

Today was a lovely sunny day but I decided to do some baking this afternoon.  I made some cheese scones (but they do look like rock cakes) and some very small lemon fairy cakes.    Now to stop me feasting on them all I shall put them away in the freezer and have them when I am going out for the day.  Mmmmm.
