Lunch at Gauthier

I met up with my friend Rob on Friday and we had lunch at Gauthier in Soho.  This is quite an old building and it was like going into someones house instead of a restaurant.   The staff were very attentive and the food was wonderful.

I had for starter a soft poached hens egg with sautéed cos lettuce, red pepper marmalade with crispy bird skin.    My main course was buttermilk poached organic salmon, sprouting broccoli, pomme cocottes with yuzu and fish jus.   My dessert was a gorgeous Golden Louis XV - dark chocolate praline.   We, of course, started with a glass of champagne and wine to match the meal.   Finally we had coffee and some lovely petit fours.    It was wonderful meal.

Sorry no photos of this wonderful food!

Legally Blonde

Rochelle and I managed to get tickets to see Legally Blonde at the Wimbledon Theatre.   It was a very good musical and really funny too.

Our ticket price included a glass of wine which went down very well in the interval.

R.I.P Leo

I found out yesterday that Leo the lovely, cheeky (he used to steal socks from my room when I was staying) friendly, soppy dog died yesterday.   He will be missed.

Westminster Abbey with the BRC

I attended the Battle of Britain Service at Westminster Abbey today.   Very nice service with Prince Charles in attendance and I am pleased to say no casualties for the Red Cross.

Olympic Victory Parade

Today I went up to London to see the Victory Parade for the athletes from the Olympics and Paralympics.   I stood near City Thameslink Station just down the road from St Pauls Cathedral and I had a great view and saw Mo Farah, Jess Ennis, Zara Phillips, Rebecca Adlington to name but a few.   Here are some of my photos and the rest are on flickr

Hot Air Balloon flight

In 2010 I won a hot air balloon flight and finally it took place on Friday.   I went with my neighbour, Julie, down to the take-off area which was at Alton, Hampshire.   We met the pilot, Chris and Grant, who was the ground crew and prepared the balloon for take off.

The take-off went smoothly and we were soon flying over the fields of Surrey.
We missed the lake and trees before we made our landing on Hankley Common.
Getting back to the take-off site was a bit of an adventure but we made it in the end.

Paralympics - Wheelchair basketball

I eventually managed to obtain tickets for the Paralympics and the tickets were for Wheelchair Basketball and of course you get a travelcard to go with it.

Rochelle and I went off to the North Greenwich Arena to see the quarter finals.   We saw Canada play Spain.

But as you can see Canada won 77 to 51.

We also saw Australia play against Poland and Australia were the winners in that match.
It was a great atmosphere and they were really exciting matches.

Designing 007: Fifty years of Bond Style

Met my friend Sarah and we went to the Barbican to the Designing 007: Fifty years of Bond Style.  A really excellent exhibition if you like Bond.  The exhibition was in three areas and once you visited each area the ticket was stamped and stamps made up the number 007, very clever.   It was great to see some of the beautiful costumes and I loved the story boards for some of the films the detail was amazing.

Bournemouth Air Show

Went down to stay with my friend Amanda in Bournemouth for the weekend.  While there we went to the Bournemouth Air Show and managed to see the Red Arrows and a Vulcan.  It was great weather and a very enjoyable weekend.

Book - Payback Time

Just read Payback Time by Geraint Anderson. Very interesting tale of revenge with a twist in the end.
