City of London Meetup

On Sunday I went on another of the Hampshire Photography meetups, this time we walked around the City of London.   We met at Cannon Street station and set off to find lots of little hidden gardens in the city.

First we came to Whittington Gardens
Then off to Cleary Gardens, where we found grapes which were provided by Loire Valley Wines to bring a taste of France to the city.
The garden is on two levels and on the lower level I found a little Chalet.  This is the Beevarian Anstel and Gretal Chalet.  This is part of the beyond the Hive Competition 2010.
Then to St Pauls where we found some fountains and some blue trees.   Yes blue trees, which is part of an environmental art installation created by an Australian artist.

And then then on to Postmans Park which is made up of the churchyards of St Leonards, Foster Lane, St Botolph, Aldersgate and the graveyard of Christchurch, Newgate Street.  It is home to the famous Watts Memorial built in 1900 as a tribute to heroic men and women.

Although we were taking in lots of the gardens we also saw many of the interesting skyscrapers, like the Gherkin and the Lloyds building both photos taken as reflections.  There are lots more pictures on flickr.

London Anniversary Games

I was lucky enough to get some tickets for the London Anniversary Games at the Olympic Park.   I went with my friend Rochelle we had great seats.
And we had the surprising sight of seeing Usain Bolt arrive on a rocket.
Seeing all the events was brilliant including the High Jump
And finally see Usain Bolt win the 100 metres.

Dragon Boat Racing

Popped down to Kingston upon Thames today to see some of the Dragon Boat Racing.

A few more pictures on flickr in the Kingston-upon-Thames set

Book - Ultimatum

Another book by Simon Kernick.   It started a little slow but soon picked up pace and was a really great book.

Vietnamese Street Food

My friend Rochelle and I booked on at Jamie Oliver Recipease to learn how to make Vietnamese Street Food.   It was a fun evening and we had some lovely food to eat at the end of it.

This is all the chopped vegetables ready for the summer rolls.
This is the Beef soup (Pho)
And here are the pork balls, summer rolls and a dipping sauce.

Greenwich to Canary Wharf Meetup

On Sunday I joined the Hampshire Photography Friends Meetup group for a walk around London.  We met at Waterloo and took a clipper from Westminster down the river to Greenwich.    We pottered around Greenwich for awhile and as it was a very hot sunny day I decided not to walk up the hill to the Observatory but I took an opportunity to look around the Maritime Museum.
We then took a walk through the foot tunnel under the Thames and walked to Canary Wharf.

Book - Sail

Another James Patterson book, Sail, finished in a couple of days.   It started slow but then really got going.   I enjoyed the book but have preferred some of his others.

I won a Photography Competition

I had a call on Monday to tell me that I was the overall winner of the CSRF Photography Competition and I also received a Highly Commended on another photo.   I am so pleased with my efforts and my prizes too.

Wimbledon Tennis

I was lucky enough to go to Wimbledon on Monday to see the tennis.   My friend Debbie had a spare ticket and she offered it to me, so how could I refuse.   The ticket was for No 1 Court and we saw 3 games.

Our view was excellent

It was great to the tennis live for a change and I have added lots more photos to flickr
